Acts of Kindness No Longer So Random

RECEIVED Wed., Aug. 24, 2005

Dear Editor,
This morning after loading my groceries into my car at Costco the woman loading the SUV next to me offered to push my cart, with hers, back to the store. Then she saw the "No W" window sticker on my car and said, "Well now that I see your sticker, never mind," and stuck her tongue out at me. Even though this line was delivered with a smile, we pushed our carts to the building side by side in silence. I couldn't help but feel sad to think that we live in a country so politically divided and polarized that even random acts of kindness are doled out along party lines.
