Dear Editor, The oath of loyalty requirement by the Bush/Cheney campaign is an insult to all Americans. Not even Ronald Reagan did this. In 1984 I saw Ronald Reagan speak on Auditorium Shores during his re-election campaign. I was only 15 years old, but I was extremely interested in the presidential campaign and asked my parents to take me. He was, after all, the president. My parents, although yellow-dog Democrats, obliged. It was hot, and the crowd was huge. It was 20 years ago, so I don't remember what the president said. I do remember it was a public and open event and that no oath of loyalty was required. Many fellow citizens got to see the president that day. I'm sure many of them did not agree with him politically, but at least they got a chance to see a president. All Americans should have that chance.
