Republicans Can't Run on Record

RECEIVED Wed., Sept. 8, 2004

Dear Editor,
There has been a lot of talk about the truth and the devil in the details this election year. Well, the big productions are over, and it is time for just that. Bring on the debates! For a party that despises Hollywood, the Republicans sure used every cliche in the book. Action heroes, old-time movie monsters, and rhetoric straight out of the war room scenes of Dr. Strangelove. Seriously.
Has anyone seen an incumbent battle his opponent this hard? The GOP controls every branch of government and has had three years to find "what's his name" and correct their mistakes. If he had done a good job, all Bush needed to do was go up there and retell his last three years, and that would be that. I think one of the protesters that was assed-out probably just held up a sign that read "Osama Who?"
Instead, we were treated to the world after 9/11 as they know it. Pay no attention to the New Yorkers who have been screwed by the promises that were not kept, lining the streets hundreds of thousands deep on Sunday. Fifty-five cents on the dollar promised in relief does not pay for the photo op Bush got on that fall afternoon. Gov. Pataki seems to think so.
The best thing they did was spend a lot of their money in NYC after staring like lemurs and shouting like the gorillas out of Planet of the Apes at their scripted leaders. Bravo bravo.
Bush bashing is prevalent because of the actions his administration has taken. Kerry bashing seems to be about people that still have not figured out that Vietnam was a horrible mistake and they have not forgiven Kerry for the greatest flip-flop of all: serving his country and seeing the horrors firsthand, then coming back and protesting so that no one else would have to fight and die. This being the ultimate support of our troops.
I forced myself to watch this mess so that I could know how to battle thine enemy. The momentum is now, but first a shower.
