Is Kerry Just Another Wealthy Elite?

RECEIVED Thu., July 8, 2004

Dear Editor,
I agree with most of what Mr. Black describes in his July 2 commentary ["Page Two]. Having spent the last 25 years as a Republican right-winger, I'm guilty of somehow believing that our "truths" were the right ones for this country and everybody else be damned if they couldn't go along. Sadly, as he points out, most of the diatribe is disseminated and driven further by the idiots on talk radio like Limbaugh. To expand on his assessment further, I'd like to point out that in the last 25 years, since Reagan took office, Republicans and right-wingers somehow have elected themselves as the aristocracy of America. Sure, a lot of them were captains of industry with control of policy for this country by majorities in the Supreme Court and Congress, but didn't America fight for independence to get out from the kings and queens of jolly old England? In a country that believes in equality for everyone, here is a party that has dutifully stepped up to the plate to try to assert its moral, religious, and extreme views. Frankly, I'm sick of it, and this mess in Iraq is further proof that the party needs to be taken down a peg or two. I personally wish there was another alternative other than Kerry since he's another wealthy elite raised in upper class circles and a member of the same Skull and Bones secret society that our current president belongs to. The Austin Chronicle should investigate his background and find out what special interests control him. Clearly, Bush losing this election is the best thing for this country, but are we just replacing him with someone whose interests are to serve corporate America over the people?
