The Whole World Is Watching

RECEIVED Mon., March 1, 2004

Dear Editor,
The mental degradation and physical torture of the female death row inmates at the TDCJ Mountain View facility cries out for justice. These totally helpless human beings are subjected to six to eight strip searches daily and deprived of sleep, which is considered torture internationally. What's worse, these human rights abuses are being done under the supervision of Christina Crain, chairman of the TDCJ board, and Pamela Baggett, the warden, who are both women. Are Texans in general human or blindly compliant pack animals willing to accept any atrocity done in their name as long as they are seen as conforming to the norm? The treatment of these women equals the worst abuses seen in the Nazi death camps and the Stalinist gulag. When will Texans start treating these women as well as they treat feedlot cattle? The whole world is watching!
