Kicking Zevon While He's Down

RECEIVED Wed., Oct. 29, 2003

Warren Zevon's final album. His magnum opus. His last breath of happiness before his painful death of lung cancer. Every review I have read of The Wind stated how magnificent it was. Every one, of course, except for the review written by one Mr. Dan Oko ["Phases and Stages," Oct. 3]. Why did Oko feel he had to write a bad review? Does he honestly feel that the album was a mistake and was not even worth his time? Or, does he just want to stand out, make a splash? If this is the way that he makes himself feel good, well fine, do it. But just remember, this was poor Warren's final album. To criticize him while he was on his deathbed, to kick him while he was down – it's like kicking a cripple's crutch out from under him. How do you sleep at night?
