At the age of 20, former janitor Sam Baker left his mop in Ann Arbor, Mich., and relocated to Los Angeles. Falling in with Detroit producer House Shoes and later Flying Lotus on MySpace, Baker briefly signed to the latter’s record label, Brainfeeder. As Samiyam, he keeps his beats straightforward, usually chopping up a sample over looped drums. – Derek Udensi
