REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Tue., Sept. 17, 2002
Dovzhenko's most celebrated film has long been a staple of greatest world cinema lists. Earth takes its agitprop story about the wonders of Soviet collectivization and turns it into a poetic - almost Jungian - visual meditation on the organic cycles of life and death. If you're only going to see one Dovzhenko film in this series, this is the one to pick.
