The Shop Around the Corner

The Shop Around the Corner

1940, NR, 97 min. Directed by Ernst Lubitsch. Starring Margaret Sullavan, James Stewart, Frank Morgan.

REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Thu., July 15, 1999

This smart and stylish Lubitsch comedy was recently remade as You've Got Mail. In the 1940 version, most of the action takes place within the small shop. Stewart and Sullavan work side-by-side, never knowing they are secret romantic correspondents.
