The 30th annual Hot Sauce Festival is going virtual this year! Donate to the Central Texas Food Bank to count yourself in on the spicy festivities. The live event will feature winner announcements, hot sauce judging highlights, surprises from Camila McConaughey and Eldorado Cafe, plus music from Go Fever, Como Las Movies, Mike Melinoe, and Nemegata. For its fourth annual installment, Austin Justice Coalition is going bigger and better with three full weeks of food, drinks, and community empowerment, including two restaurant weeks and a food truck week. Black Food Week's goal is to educate the community about new and longstanding Black-owned restaurants and support these places that have become pillars of the community. A visual arts contest for kids to create original works of art to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. Children ages 5-12 submit photos of their artwork, and images will be posted on the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center's Facebook and Instagram pages Sept. 12-18 and will be highlighted during the MACC's 16 de Septiembre event. Winners will be selected based on the number of likes they receive and will be sent a prize package of arts supplies and MACC swag. Winners announced Sept. 20.

Teen service days are a chance for teens to volunteer virtually alongside their peers. Youth can learn about volunteering with organizations via guest speakers and participate in activities like creating cards for kids in foster care. Join in via Zoom.

Join Texas Campaign for the Environment for this 10th annual event, a contest for fashion designers, stylists, and models to create original high-fashion looks out of recycled and recovered materials. Enjoy a unique fashion show, participate in the People’s Choice awards, and learn more about TCE's work to fight pollution in Texas. There's also an online auction with unique items from some of Austin's favorite vendors, restaurants, and performers, going all week leading up to the event.

Download an age-appropriate "Quest Log" (children, youth, teen, or adult), then submit a form whenever a challenge is completed and earn a digital badge. Use the Austin Public Library's curbside pickup or virtual catalog to check out materials to complete your quest.

DogEmbark says puppies needs to meet 100 different people and dogs before they reach 16 weeks of age to learn the social skills they need to be happy, positive members of the community. So they're offering a COVID-conscious space at Barton Creek Farmers Market for dogs seven-16 weeks old to socialize. If you've got a potential puppy participant, register online. If not, you could be one of those important 100, so go pet the puppers!
