Here's a fun new Downtown installation, created by Jonathan Chomko and Matthew Rosier, in which streetlights play back the shadows of those who pass beneath them. No, for real. As a citizen walks under the lights, "the shadow of a previous visitor will walk, hop, or dance beside them, and then their own movements will be captured and displayed to the next passerby." "Indian-Americans Shape the Nation," a traveling exhibition created by the Smithsonian Institution, makes an artifact-rich stop at the Asian American Resource Center – with a vibrant collection of photographs, art, and interactive learning stations.

"Showcasing some of Austin’s finest realist figurative artists, across a variety of media, with their newest, most exciting work." Sounds almost humdrum, right? Just another standard gallery promo? But, listen – you know how something can be so powerful as to, how we say, fuck you up but in a good way? Well, this is one of those things. This is one of those exhibitions. At the Dougherty, yes. Because Jennifer Balkan and Dana Younger and Alejandra Almuelle and Karen Maness and Felice House and more.

A retrospective of Texas artist Catherine Lee's work in diverse media will be anchored by her monumental sculpture Hebrides #6: Clach An Trushal, on loan from the Contemporary Austin.

That excellent gallery on 12th Street features a new show of works by Faustinus Deraet, Ginger Geyer, and Barbara Pence, an arrangement of photographs, paintings, and sculpture that explores the often overlooked language of the ordinary – with extraordinary results.

The late artist's Austin edifice will soon be unveiled at the Blanton – whose own Kelly exhibition is another gorgeous thing indeed – and here this elegant Downtown gallery presents an exhibition of lithographs he made between 1966 and 2012.
