So, a day late and a dollar's snort, here's the second in this new series called Bedside Manner, in which your toilers at Austin's Favorite Altweekly take a snapshot of what readables happen to be next to their bed when they wake from whatever dreams complicated their headspace on the Sunday night just passed. This week, let's count out a Top 10 Blast from the Past. Ten years ago was the year 2000. What were you listening to? Putting this list together, reveals how diverse the music industry was back then. There was a top tune for almost every genre. I hope it brings back some good music memories.

Newspaper endorsements are a tricky thing. After all, editorial boards are entitled to their opinions, and we've willingly taken enough flack for ours. However, the Austin-American Statesman's recent editorial backing Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst described an incumbent that, well, didn't quite match our memory of the president of the Texas Senate.

College can be a grueling experience. Sure, you're in classes more than 20 hours less than when you were in high school and you don't wake up until 10am (or 1pm depending on how many "college beverages" you consumed the night before), but somehow it feels like more of a grind than ever before.

I hate to report this, but another young man has taken his life. Zach Harrington from Norman, OK has committed suicide after enduring an awful amount of hate speech at a town meeting. Watching the video is truly painful. This guy had some balls, and he should still be here to fight with us.

With a recent presentation on permanent supportive housing – a strategy that Dallas Observer columnist Jim Schutze jokingly described as “disguising the homeless as not homeless by giving them homes” – homelessness is again on the city's radar. Locally, the good fight's fought by House the Homeless founder Richard Troxell.

If you're looking for skaters this weekend, don't look in Austin. No, they're not avoiding ACL traffic. The Texas Rollergirls' travel team the Texecutioners are in Lincoln, Neb., for the Womens Flat Track Derby Association's South Central regionals, while the Lonestar Rollergirls are taking a turkey trot to Cuero.

The Austin Aztex face playoff elimination tonight, needing at least a two-goal win over the Montreal Impact to keep their season alive. The Aztex's first-ever playoff game is at 7:30 Saturday night at House Park. Hope the noise doesn't disturb the partying across the river.
