TXRD Lonestar skaters bout this weekend, talent scouting soon

Could tonight be a dry run for the 2011 TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls Calvello Cup title match-up? Two of this season's most hotly-touted teams – 2010 champions the Cherry Bombs and the Putas del Fuego – may be looking to sideline their big challengers in tonight's bout.

The Putas come in after beating the Hellcats 50-41 in March, while April saw the Bombs put the Holly Rollers on their knees 64-52. Expect to see the Rhinestone Cowgirls (currently 2-0 for the season) in the bleachers scouting out their likely competitors for the 2011 season title.

The bout starts tonight at 7pm (doors 6pm) at the Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs. If you cannot make the bout live, you can catch the video stream via www.ustream.com, but it's a long weekend. What's you excuse for not going? Tickets available now via Front Gate Tickets and local vendors for $13 or $15 on the door.

If that excites your interest in banked-track derby, then all throughout June the league will be holding bootcamps and tryouts. The bootcamps run June 4-5, and the tryouts are June 18-19. Contact tryouts[at]txrd.com for more details.

If you're wondering what the league will be doing across that mid-June weekend, they'll be out of state looking for national glory. The All Scar Army will be heading to Phoenix, Ariz. for Battle on the Bank IV on June 10-12. If you want to help the team with travel expenses, you can donate using Paypal via their website.
