Ricky Williams to Host 'Run Ricky Run' Screening

Candid doc follows Ricky's controversial career

Ricky Williams to Host 'Run Ricky Run' Screening

Current Miami Dolphin and former University of Texas Heisman Trophy-winning running back Ricky Williams ventures back to Austin to host a screening of ESPN's excellent 30 for 30 documentary Run Ricky Run this Friday, April 30, at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum.

General admission tickets good for the 8pm screening and the Q&A following are $40 while $100 VIP tickets are available for those wishing to attend the 7pm reception with Williams as well.

In Run Ricky Run Williams allows directors Sean Pamphilon and Royce Toni full access to his life in the years following his decision to walk away from professional football and his hefty contract. Viewed by many as a player who chose marijuana over football, Williams comes across as a man searching for truth and inner peace while also alienating himself from family and friends as well as dealing with social anxiety disorder.

The contradictions run rampant and only make Williams' story all the more fascinating. I've always liked Williams for both his excellent play and eccentric life choices, and he still manages to come off as likable (in my opinion) while distancing himself from his three kids he has with three different mothers.

An intriguing film on a complicated sports star who will always be a legend in Austin. Run Ricky Run is must-see viewing for all football (and documentary film) fans and I would imagine the Q&A following the film will be enlightening and worth the $40 ticket.
