Two Wheels Good, Eight Wheels Better

Texas Rollergirls get bike crazy for bout two

Two Wheels Good, Eight Wheels Better

The Texas Rollergirls know a thing or two about human powered transportation: That's why they've invited League of Bicycling Voters executive director Tom Wald to blow the whistle on this month's bout, taking place tonight, April 25, at Playland Skate Center.

For anyone that wants to get in on the cycle action, there'll be a social ride up to the bout, starting at 3.30pm at the south side of the Capitol.

So what about the bout? When we left our plucky sporting heroines after the March season opener, 2009 champions the Hotrod Honeys looked indomitable, although a jetlegged Hustlers kept the pressure on. Meanwhile, the Honky Tonk Heartbreakers pulled out a last-minute lead after a neck-and-neck tussle with the Hell Marys.

So tonight is where everything gets serious when the Hustlers and the Hells face off: Whoever walks away 0-2 on the night can kiss a championship spot good bye. As for the Honky Tonks, they want to prove that their rookie-heavy roster can hang with the toughest. They'll get that opportunity when they line up against the Hotrods.

The bout takes place April 25 at Playland Skate Center, 8822 McCann Drive: First whistle at 7pm, doors 6.30pm. Tickets available now, $12 advance, $15 on the door.
