Aztex Home for 2009: Nelson Field

Austin Aztex sign a contract with AISD to play at Nelson Field in 2009, House Park the next

The Austin Aztex announced today that they've signed a two-year agreement to play in Austin Independent School District facilities in 2009 and 2010.

The club will play its inaugural season in the USL-First Division at Nelson Field (next to Reagan High, near Cameron Road and U.S. 290), with the opportunity to play at House Park in 2010. Phil Rawlins, Aztex president, said in a press release that the team had “been in dialog with AISD the past few months about making House Park our home stadium but because of the new locker room construction, House won’t be available until the end of next summer, too late for our 2009 season. Nelson is a great location, very accessible to all our fans and will be a great stadium for us this year.”

The USL-I Aztex will play a 32-game season, starting in April 2009. The Premier Development League (amateur) team will play a 16-game season as well; reportedly, they'll play at the Texas School for the Deaf campus in near South Austin.
