King of Kombat Komes Back

Austin's freshest MMA promotion, King of Kombat, is gearing up for its next big event: World War III at the Crockett Center on April 5.

The 11-bout card will kick off with the return of Garrett Bennett, who sloughed off his rookie loss with a lightning-fast submission win over Britton Lufkin back in November. He could face a serious challenge from Louis Sims Jr., an experienced freestyler who still has to get an MMA win. A lot of attention will also be on James "Duece" King Jr, whose three-round slobberknocker against Sherif Ghaly was one of November's stand-out momemts: he'll be facing off against Huntsville's Lane Yarbrough's jiu-jitsu-based offense.

But the highlight of the night could be the WCCF welterweight championship bout between Kamal Shalorus and Jeff Davis. Globe-trotting amateur all-star Shalorus, now based in Austin, brings a 5-0 undefeated MMA record up against Oklahoman wrestler Davis. But don't let Davis' 12-4 career fool you: those defeats were all early in his career.
