By Mark Fagan, January 25, 2007, 12:41pm, The Score

On Monday the D-League approved a trade sending the Toros forward Scott Merritt to Tulsa in exchange for 66ers guard Cheyne Gadson. Merritt appeared in 21 games for the Toros this season making the starting lineup 17 times. Gadson is 25th in the league in scoring (and was the second-leading scorer for Tulsa) averaging 15.9 points in 23 games. In Gadson's debut with the Toros he helped lead them to victory over P.J. Tucker and the Colorado 14ers with eight points and a game-high six assists. Former Longhorn Tucker didn't fare so well in his return to Austin scoring four points in 24 minutes on 2-for-6 shooting. The Toros' Loren Woods picked up a double-double with 14 boards and 12 points.

In the You Won't See This in the NBA Department: Toros mascot Da Bull prematurely ran onto the court with .4 seconds remaining in the Colorado tilt hanging from the rim and colliding with a Colorado player in the process. Da Bull was assessed a technical allowing the 14ers a chance to tie the game (after hitting the free throw) with a three-pointer which they fortunately failed to make. Da Bull was suspended for two games and was assessed 50 hours of community service by the Toros.

Toros coach Dennis Johnson along with players Brad Buckman and Kris Clack will host a Kids Basketball Clinic this Sunday, Jan. 28, 1-3pm at the Pflugerville Whataburger (14310-A I-35, just south of Wells Branch Parkway). The clinic is free and includes a day of basketball, food, and fun for children 18 or younger.
