Jaws on the Water is Back for Another Bite

Signature Drafthouse floating screening returns in July

After over a year of still waters, Lake Travis is once again no longer safe for the faint of heart. At least, not for those who fear becoming a late night snack. For the first time since COVID-19 held the event at bay last summer, Alamo Drafthouse revealed that Jaws on the Water will be returning for another immersive viewing experience.

Held at Volente Beach on Lake Travis, the screenings of Steven Spielberg’s iconic thriller will take to the depths on July 3 and continue for the following two Saturdays. Gates open at 5pm, so attendees can mentally prepare for the scares by enjoying the park’s food and rides prior to the screening. After that, fans will watch the movie on a large outdoor screen while relaxing in inflatables. Underneath them, the infamous scuba divers will return to linger within the depths of the water, brushing legs and tubes in hopes of amplifying shark-instilled fear. It will be as though nothing has changed

However, Drafthouse confirmed this event is not fully out of the deep end yet. Taking pandemic precautions, tickets will be “more limited” than previous screenings, in order to allow for socially distancing floating. And this time, you’re gonna need a bigger tube. Or a smaller one. Just make sure to bring your own inflatable because unlike previous years, there will be no inner tubes sold or rented for participants.

Jaws on the Water, Volente Beach Resort & Waterpark, 16107 FM 2769, July 3, 10, 17. Tickets can be found at jawsonthewateratx.eventbrite.com.
