Kickstart Your Week With Austin Film Society
AFS hosts its first crowdfunding lab

We write every week about a different crowdfunding campaign with a local hook, hoping to put campaigns in front of people who might be interested in backing.
Last week was an executioner documentary; the Thanksgiving special was about Daniel Johnston. But what if you're on the other side of the wallet?
For those who already have the production under way but who might need help setting up an online crowdfunding campaign, the Austin Film Society is hosting a crowdfunding seminar tonight as part of its Moviemaker Dialogue series. Guest speakers will include Indiegogo's Marc Hofstatter, Zero Charisma's Andrew Matthews, Before You Know It's PJ Raval and Annie Bush, and "Oceanmaker" producer Christina Martell. That last project is one of particular import to this column, as its campaign was the inaugural one we chose to highlight back in April.
Registration is still open until 3pm for the event, which starts at 7pm tonight in the AFS Screening Room (1901 E. 51st). Tickets are $10 for general admission, or free or $5 for different levels of AFS members. Visit the AFS website for complete details.
Kickstart Your Weekend is a series intended to showcase Texas film and tech projects that are crowdfunding their way to a goal, be it distribution, a prototype, or production costs. If you have a project that we should know about, email us at [email protected].
