On any given day in a movie theatre, you can see good guys take on evil in action-packed adventures, watch love conquer all in a happily-ever-after romcom, or get stoned with a couple dweebs in a small arthouse experiment.

Going to the movies is, in that way, all about options – choosing your own adventure, if you will. So this week, we're pulling a little from column A and a little from column Q to bring this roundup of upcoming features.

A Band Called Death

How did three black brothers from Detroit turn Death to life? Rock, of course. The predecessors to the Sex Pistols and Ramones talk about blazing their trail in the Motown heyday. Drafthouse Films brings this "rockumentary" back to town June 28, after its successful run at the South by Southwest Film Festival this spring.

Thor: The Dark World

In this week's trailer for the Thor sequel, viewers get a glimpse of star-crossed lovers Thor and Jane (Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, respectively), plenty of Mjølnir, and one tiny glimpse of Tom Hiddleston's Loki. In his third turn as the thunderous Norse god (after Thor and The Avengers, Hemsworth is probably pretty comfortable as the mighty hammer-wielding god, but this view suggests trouble's afoot between warring worlds.

Monsters University

The third trailer for Monsters University dropped this week, bringing with it glimpses of the plot for the long-awaited follow-up to 2001's Monsters Inc. Sully and Mike had to be trained somewhere, and MU definitely has the pedigree, but with every college comes a few stereotypical cliques. Meet them all (but not for real, despite the convincing ad campaign) this summer.
