Drafthouse Helping After the Fire

By Richard Whittaker, December 23, 2012, 5:43pm, Picture in Picture

There's no good time to lose your home to fire, but Christmas must be the worst. An estimated 60 people lost everything in Wednesday's fire at International Residence Apartments, including six staff from the Alamo Drafthouse. Tonight, Dec. 23, the Drafthouse wants to put some cheer in their stockings with a special screening and a silent auction.

Tonight at 10pm there will be a special quote-a-long benefit screening of Will Ferrell's new holiday classic Elf. Tickets runs from $10 to $100, depending how many sizes you want your heart to grow this night.

But the big contributions may come before that, with a silent auction that will make film fans hope for an extra special gift from Santa

Expect bidding to get a little giddy about the chance to own a framed Caddyshack poster, signed by Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield, and Chevy Chase, or a mounted poster for The Vampire's Assistant, signed by John C. Reilly.

As for you Mondo completists, break out your credit cards. Items on offer tonight include:

Complete set of the Tyler Stout Star Wars Original Trilogy gold variant.
Olly Moss' Lord of the Rings
Nightmare Before Christmas

Aside from that, you could hold your own private pizza party and screening at the Drafthouse or gave the Drafthouse come to you with a Rolling Roadshow screening in your back yard. There are also VIP tours of the Shiner and Thirsty Planet breweries, Uchi gift cards, Cap City Comedy tickets, and a whole lot more.

And if you don't feel like making it out to the screening, you can also donate via Austin Disaster Relief.

Elf quote-a-long and silent auction, Dec. 23, 10pm, Alamo Lake Creek, 13729 Research. Tickets available here.
