Trailers From Hell

If you haven't read Marc Savlov's bloodflecked dismantling of the Austin horror scene, Full-Gore Press, then start chopping. Most of those films are still being sewn together but the first footage is already escaping from the lab for some of them.

Proving she is a lot more than simply a Zombie Girl, Emily Hagins debuted her third movie My Sucky Teen Romance this year at SXSW: However, she debuted the trailer last year at the first Wizard World Austin Comic-Con. That same year, the folks from indie comics Bad Kids go to Hell were telling everyone how they were going to be coming back soon with a movie adaptation of their book. A year later they were back at Wizard World 2011, with that nearly-completed film in their hands. Filmed at Bastrop's Spiderwood Studios and co-written by UT alum Barry Wernick, the first trailer is out (although Wernick and director/co-creator Matthew Spradlin said it's more of a sizzle reel, and the real trailer will come next year.)

As the Judd Nelson cameo shows, Bad Kids is going for a real 80s horror vibe (when gore was fun), but first signs of (un)life from Postmodern Undead look like they'll be tapping a deeper vein.

Back in the summer, Off the Record caught up with Jesse Dayton on the set of his upcoming fresh ripper Zombex. It was a sweaty afternoon at Mohawk, with X guitarist John Doe on set as local burlesque star Cardinal Cyn and friends did their thing on the indoor stage. No sign of any footage yet, so here's some Dayton's alter-ego (and Rob Zombie's favorite redneck rampager) Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures to tide you over.
