I’m almost reluctant to post this – who wants the competition? – but starting tomorrow (time undefined) Mondo Tees will be selling new Star Wars posters from Brit wunderkind Olly Moss.
Moss previously designed the stark, gorgeous (and Burnt Orange!) images for the Alamo’s 2010 Rolling Roadshow.
Wired got the exclusive on the Moss’ three prints for the original trilogy in a popular preexisting Mondo Star Wars series; Moss’ vision took a year of hard-pressing LucasFilm to authorize. Says Wired’s Allison Davis:
“Given Moss' talent, he was a coveted artist for Mondo's Star Wars series, a high-stakes project for the art house. George Lucas is notoriously protective of his Star Wars images, and it took [Mondo's Justin] Ishmael and Mondo a year to woo Lucasfilm into licensing the characters and worlds that would grace the posters. Instead of flowers, Mondo sent over poster prototypes made with metallic and glow-in-the-dark ink.”
They’re dazzling, of course, but damned if I'll say which one I fancy most. Like I said, who wants the competition? Expect a lot of frenzied refreshing of browsers tomorrow.
