Austin is among the five cities nominated as a Do Something City in VH1's 2010 Do Something Awards:

Here's the official nomination text about our fair city:

Austin, Texas is the new frontier for young Americans because of its wealth of new business opportunities, Austin is also leading the nation in car sharing programs and encourages biking as a primary form of transportation.
Boston, Greensburg, Kansas; Portland, and Salt Lake City (?!) are also nominated. Personally, I think I'd have to lean toward Greensburg. Devastated by a tornado, the city has come back, rebuilding with green initiatives, leading the way making a liveable, sustainable city, pleasant, and healthy for all. That, and I'm a Midwesterner. Yeah, I know – Yankee, Go Home. But hey, I think Austin earns some props for leading the way with our car share programs. All two. But that's TWO more than anyplace else, and as a user of Car2Go, I can testify to its awesomeness.

But who do you think should win? Online voting continues through Sunday.

Other nomination categories include: Best Do Something TV Show, Comedian, Movie Star, Athlete, Music Artist, Docu Style, Twitter, and one overall award.

The 2010 Do Something Awards will be awarded live, Monday July 19 at 8pm on VH-1. The lovely Jane Lynch (Glee) hosts.
