Work of Art Recap

Two more, out the door

Work of Art by Jaclyn
Work of Art by Jaclyn (by Barbara Nitke, Bravo)

I've been out of it due to knee surgery but I did tune into the last episode of Work of Art on Bravo. Ok, what I really want to know is: how can a reality show bent on exposing the world to fine art, be so boring and conventional?

What did I expect, you ask? I don't know—something more than the same old overheated dramas, the predictable personality blow-ups, the tired love connections, and rivalries. Even in my drug-induced state (pain-killers, mind you) I could not fathom why I was sitting on the couch watching. I found no pleasure in correctly predicting who would get the boot (Nao Bustamante, then Jaime Lynn). And I'm even less satisfied correctly guessing the winner. What I'm really longing for is a more in-depth look at the winning works—what makes them work and why.

Sigh.

Well, here's the most recent winner, Jaclyn's pretty smart piece reflecting the male gaze, which she has a love/hate relationship with. I've decided I have a love/hate opinion of her, too. And the show. Yeah, I'll keep watching.
