In this week's Screens section, we preview the Austin Film Society's summer Essential Cinema series, which presents a terrific survey of cinema from boutique distributor Milestone Films.
In addition to the 10 films presented by the film society (which you can read more about here), there are further opportunities to view works from Milestone Films this summer.
This week, Cine las America presents the stunningly shot, pro-revolutionary I Am Cuba (June 6 and June 8). Then on June 27, the Alamo Ritz continues its silent-film-and-movie series with the unique animation effort, The Adventures of Prince Achmed. The restored 35mm print will be accompanied by an original, live score by Many Birthdays.
