Can one be a gay male and have a man crush? This has been nagging me since I found out that indie gaming god and unfailingly cool dude Brandon Boyer lived locally. The floppy-haired, unshaven golden boy of gaming was recently named the chairman of the Independent Games Festival, a yearly competition and convention that calls itself the Sundance of gaming.
And while I've never met the man, he's totally my Facebook friend. That's something. Totally.
As chairman, Boyer will lord over all the game submissions and decide their fates. That's no easy gig when you count up all of the last festival's entrants (607!). You might remember I played every single game that was on the web and available a few months back. Or you might not. That's what links are for, right?
Boyer made a name for himself writing for Boing Boing before co-founding the indie game blog Offworld. More than that, the man has set up camp at the cutting edge of the gaming world, making sure that the little guys who are pushing the design envelope are recognized.
I think it's a good choice on IGF's part, but then again I was hypnotized by those dreamy, world-weary eyes long ago, so maybe I'm partial.
I'll be expecting a restraining order in the mail.
