“It's just like running a 400, but it never ends."
That’s how director Mike Dolan described making Dance With the One back when the Chron visited the set during the film’s 2008 summer shoot. The end is in sight, though: Dance With the One premieres at SXSW this Monday.
The film is Michener Center for Writers alum Mike Dolan’s feature directorial film (he also costars in SXSW film Mars), and top to bottom the cast and crew was staffed with locals, mostly culled from the university. It’s the first – and only, at least for now – film to be produced by the University of Texas Film Institute, an ambitious nonprofit that gives students significant feature filmmaking experience.
Check out “Of Strip Clubs and Hash Stashes,” Clay Smith’s story on Dance With the One, here.
Dance With the One premieres March 15, at 7:30pm, at the Alamo Ritz. It also screens March 16, 2:30pm, at the Alamo South Lamar, and March 20, 2:30pm, at the Paramount.
