Mo' Music Aug 27

Rob tortures himself with the top three songs in the U.S.A.

Mo' Music Aug 27

I decided to subject myself to suffering through the top three songs in the country from the Billboard Top 100.

"We Are Never, Ever Getting Back Together" Taylor Swift
It seems her agent finally got her to get rid of the whole country angle so she can join the bloated ranks of MOR pop starlets. The song itself is catchy but unremarkable. I'm all for girl power, but if there was no such thing as love, what the hell would this girl's music be about? I am totally fine going our separate ways. She does earn a point for the self-awareness that a lot of indie music is cooler than hers.

"Whistle" Flo Rida
This exceptionally dumb song about fellatio is infectious yes, but not anything anyone with taste would want to catch. If you removed his vocals it could easily be a Taylor Swift song. I thought I would have to put a disclaimer up about not being the most knowledgeable on hip-hop, but this is just a pop song, nothing more, nothing less.

"Lights" Ellie Goulding
The trend of increasingly boring European pop tarts (La Poux, Borence & The Meh-chine, Little Poots) continues with this generic… oh who cares. Check out Annie if you want some smart, creative pop from Europe.
