What Not to Wear
Lesbians, known for their innate fashion sense, debate the pleasures of cargo shorts online.

The women of Austin Craigslist Women Seek Women personals board (which is actually more of a discussion board than hook-up site) are taking sides in a tussle over style. Yesterday, a post called "Lesbian Events" asked the very reasonable question: "What I see when I go out is nothing but cargo shorts, T-shirts, and flip flops. I'm wondering why this is?" It set off a controversy that is still raging today.
Personally, I careen all over the style curve. One might say that I am "fluid" on the continuum, as it were. Anyone who knows me knows, for example, of my fetish for fabulous mens shoes. I like my guayaberas pressed, my slacks with indelible creases (no freaking pleats), and socks that, if not match, at least entertain.
I'm not, however, above shopping the clearance rack at Old Navy or slapping on a pair of the dreaded C-word shorts. I would just never wear them in public with flip-flops.
What attracts women who are attracted to the acquired taste that is K8 is a mystery to me. But I do know that the shoes do not hurt. And style is always a good conversation starter.
Me? My tastes run the gamut, but the head-turners in my book are at least interestingly put together, if not natty dressers. Then again, I have, on occasion, caught myself ogling the scruffy. To each her own.
I do, however, agree with the OP, that we local lovelies could use a sprucing. I stopped going to a local cowpoke watering hole simply because I could no longer handle the headgear. My disgust inspired me to pen the country classic, "Goddamn, Lesbian, Take Off the Visor."
Maybe it's time we held an event. We could call it: What Not to Wear: The Homo Edition.
