Strong like Bull

It's been a while since I've posted anything and last Saturday I missed out on the morning workout (due to a dead cell phone - I use my phone as my alarm clock-). So I have been feeling like I may be neglecting this whole Club Chronicle thing.

Even though it may look like I just showed up for the free swag and nothing else, I have really been missing out. I keep hearing about the great breakfast/after workout meal that Zen has been providing. And just as important I have had little time to get together with our coaches to get input/direction.

Considering all that, I have been feeling a bit crappy about my involvement with the Club. So I am making a vow, to make an effort (I'm not big on hard line resolutions) to blog more and due everything I can to make it down to Auditorium Shores every Saturday morning from here on out.

That being said, I have been sticking with my personal training schedule. It figures that one week after I go out and buy workout clothes designed to keep one cooler, a cold front would move in! I got three good hot and humid runs in while wearing my clothes, every day since has been brisk at best! Thats bull.

I'm not sure how much the brisk weather had to do with it, but I ran another PFT today and significantly improved on my run time. I am happy with my improvement (more than a two minute drop - that's huge! That equates to be more than 12 points) and the better run time has validated all of my hard work. It's nice to know that everything I have been doing is working and continues to decrease my run time. There was a time where I wasn't sure if I my training was getting me any closer to my goal and I was afraid that I was just spinning my wheels. But today I increased my score, so my final score now is much MUCH better and is now highly competitive.

It was a miserable run though. We got out to the track on UT campus about 9am. It was very cold and it was raining. It rained most of the run, but let up just as we were finishing. The miserable weather was beat back by a sense of accomplishment when I heard my final time. There's a Marine Corps maxim that says; - "If it's not rainin, your not trainin." Well, we were definitely trainin today!

Now knowing that my training has been working, I guess it's back to hitting the pavement. Slowly increasing my distances and intensity. Man it is hard to improve on your distance runs! I mean, I had a lot of respect for long distance runners before I set out on this, but now. . . I just think there crazy. Competitive marathoners will run like a 6 minute average mile, for 26 miles! The world record is an average of under 4min 40sec mile for 26 miles! That is just plain crazy, I don't care who you are.

I guess everyone needs something to be humbled by. Crazy marathon runnin bastards.

Well, I know I said this last week, but I hope to see some new faces out there this Saturday, bright and early (I have only made it one practice, so I guess pretty much every face will be new to me.)
