Voter Registration Deadline Monday

By Richard Whittaker, February 1, 2016, 4:12pm, Newsdesk

The presidential primary in Texas may not be until March 1, but if you want to cast your vote then, you need to get registered before midnight on Feb. 1 – as in, today, people.

If you haven't submitted your paperwork by the end of the day, you will not be able to vote in either the Republican or Democratic primaries this March. So the Travis County Tax Office has sent out a quick reminder that you still have time to register in person at any of these locations:

• You can register until midnight at the main tax office, 5501 Airport, and you don't even have to go inside: Travis County Tax Assessor Bruce Elfant will be outside collecting voter registration applications from 5:30pm onwards.

Univision will be registering voters in its office lobby at 2233 W. North Loop until 8pm.

• The League of Women's Voters will be registering voters at all local Alamo Drafthouse locations (Lakeline, Ritz, Slaughter Lane, South Lamar, and Village) until midnight.

• Elfant's office also advises to look for locations and tables around town, including on the UT campus.

Remember: if you used the Text2Register system, but haven't received and sent in your postage paid voter registration information, you are not registered to vote on March 1. So Elfant's office recommends you get down to any of these locations, so you can exercise your democratic right.
