UPDATED: Lehmberg Released From Jail

In accordance with jail release policy and with good time credits under her belt, Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg was released from jail early this morning, after serving 20 days of a 45-day sentence for drunk driving assessed last month.

Updated below to include comments from DA's office.

A statement released to media this morning notes that Lehmberg will now seek professional treatment to "better understand her behavior" that led to the April 12 arrest for DWI.

Here is the complete text of the emailed statement:

Rosemary Lehmberg was released in the early morning on May 9th according to the procedures of the Travis County Sheriff and jail, after completing the sentence she had received for the offense of DWI. In the coming days, Rosemary will be making arrangements to seek professional treatment and better understand her behavior. She will also meet with members of her staff with whom she been communicating throughout the last 3 weeks.

Rosemary greatly appreciates the professionalism and dedication of the Travis County Jail staff.

Rosemary will provide a statement to the media in the near future.

The DA's office has released its own statement, from First Assistant DA John Neal, apparently in response to media questions about office function during Lehmberg's absence.

Here is the text of Neal's statement:

Our office has an established chain of command, and we will continue to operate as we have in the past when the District Attorney was away for any reason. I and some senior staff have been in contact with Rosemary, and will meet with her soon after her release. This office will continue to efficiently serve the needs of the citizens of Travis County.

Rosemary has stated she will be seeking professional help but that is a personal matter and we have no details on that decision.
