Visa Coming to Austin

By Monica Riese, December 11, 2012, 12:02pm, Newsdesk

After considerable deliberations regarding economic incentives, it was announced today that credit giant Visa is coming to town.

According to a press release from the Austin Chamber of Commerce, the company's new global IT center will be housed off Highway 183 in a 175,000 square foot office space. It is estimated that the project will create 794 jobs over the next five years, with an average salary of $96,000.

In return, City Council approved an incentives package of $1.56 million over a decade. For more on the details of that deal, see "Visa Wants a Chargeback," Newsdesk blog, Nov. 26.

Visa's IT center is only the latest in a long line of tech enterprises that have made the move to the Silicon Valley of the South, including Samsung, Apple, HID Global, and more.
