Save a Life, Enjoy the Holiday
Cat and dog adoption specials this weekend
By Jordan Smith, 4:13PM, Thu. May 24, 2012
With kitten and puppy season in full swing, local shelters are staying open for the holiday and are offering adoption specials.
While other city offices will be closed, the Austin Animal Center, the city-run shelter, will remain open on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, from 11am to 7pm for an adoption extravaganza. Indeed, the shelter is now home to some 400 felines looking for forever friends. The adoption fee is just $35 this weekend for any animal under five ($40 off the regular price), while any animal over five is free for qualified adopters. The fee includes up-to-date vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, collar, tag, and microchip.

Also on tap this weekend, the Austin Humane Society will host a cat adoption party on Saturday, May 26, with all cats over one year old free to good homes. What? Free? You got it – along with vaccinations and spay/neuter surgery. Also Saturday, the AHS is joining forces with PetsMart at Ohlen Road and Hwy 183, from 11a to 4p for a mobile adoption event.
