No Business Sense

It's time again for another roundup of marijuana dealing losers – indeed, its been quite an unlucky week for several pot purveyors. Read 'em and weep:

In Salisbury, N.C., a woman expecting delivery of a new computer opened a box delivered to her trailer by UPS to find 45 pounds of pot. The woman, Sarah Howell Leach, called police to report the delivery. Acting Salisbury Police Chief Rodney Harris said the dope, sent from McAllen, is worth approximately $35,000. In an effort to catch the package's intended recipients, police closed it up and placed it at the porch of an unoccupied trailer home hear Leach's and then set up surveillance. After several hours, however, no one came to claim the package, addressed to "Jack Lance," reports the Salisbury Post. When school kids began arriving home from school, police retrieved the package and called it a day. According to the paper, the package remains unclaimed. Leach, however, did get her computer. It came by FedEx.

Talk about a dude with no sense of direction: Jesus Fontanez-Medina, who was driving from Texas to New York with $33,000 worth of pot in his car, was sentenced this week to two years in Canadian jail after the GPS in his car sent him over an international bridge and into Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. How the hell Fontanez-Medina ended up in Sarnia, which is northeast of Detroit, while on his way to New York – and driving a car with Massachusetts plates – isn't at all clear. Speaking through an interpreter, reports the Sarnia Observer, the man asked only that the judge "treat him well."

Finally, briefly, and closer to home, in Brownsville, Texas Dept. of Public Safety officers arrested the son of a former city commissioner for possession of more than 680 pounds of pot, the Brownsville Herald reported this week. Leonel Alberto Garza (son of former Commissioner Leo T. Garza) and Jose Luis Guerrero were actually arrested late last week as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation in the border town.
