My Breakfast With Marc

Getting to know the city manager

Turnons, turnoffs: Marc Ott
Turnons, turnoffs: Marc Ott

This morning, city manager Marc Ott had an informal sit-down with the City Hall press corps, in order to mark the one-year anniversary of his tenure. While we scarfed down breakfast tacos, Ott spoke broadly about his experiences since taking the gig. Aside from that, the city staff had prepared two factsheets about the city manager, one titled "Accomplishments" and another named "About Marc."

While Ott's accomplishments are largely what you'd expect (the city's disaster response to Hurricanes Ike and Gustav, for instance), the "About" sheet was filled with the sort of personal trivia about the manager you might not expect to know. Let's run it down, shall we? (We copied the results verbatim.)

What has been your favorite Austin experience to date? First Night Austin

What do you do to relax? Sketch, Lift Weights

What's in your iPod? It's still in the packaging (just haven't had time).

What book are you currently reading? Rise of the Creative Class, Richard Florida

What is the last film you saw? Hotel for Dogs (with the kids)

What is your favorite restaurant? Sullivan's

What are your hobbies? Drawing (people)

Got something to say on the subject? Send a letter to the editor.
