CapMetro Free for Evacuees

By Richard Whittaker, September 13, 2008, 2:49pm, Newsdesk

Capital Metro prices are pretty good to begin with, but they're a little better for Hurricane Ike evacuees. This press release just in:

Hurricane Ike evacuees staying in shelters in the Austin area can ride all regular Capital Metro buses for free by showing their shelter-issued wristbands. Capital Metro also is providing free schedule books and maps at shelter locations to assist passengers. Capital Metro services are running a regular Saturday schedule today. In addition, Capital Metro continues to coordinate with the EOC to provide special buses as needed.
It's a little bit of a shame that there wasn't a way to extend this to other evacuees who aren't at a shelter, but this is a good start.
