Zogby Poll Shows Obama With Huge Electoral Lead
Texas numbers look fishy
By Lee Nichols, 4:52PM, Thu. Jul. 24, 2008
As much as I want this to be true, I'm a little doubtful: A new poll from Zogby International shows Barack Obama with the Electoral College votes he needs to wrap up the presidential election. It takes 270 electors to win and Zogby's map shows Obama with 273 while John McCain has 146, with 119 votes in "too close to call" states.
While electoral map projections I've seen from other news and polling outlets generally show the country leaning toward Obama (National Public Radio being a notable exception), this is the first I've seen actually showing Obama over 270.
That alone makes me a bit suspicious of Zogby's numbers, but the Texas totals really raised my eyebrow: McCain 42%, Obama 39%, Barr 6%, Nader 2%. Seriously? Barr is taking that big a bite out of McCain's ass here?
I realize that Obama has energized Texas Democrats, but I won't believe the Lone Star State is truly in play until the Nov. 4 totals start coming in and actually prove it – unless more of Zogby's colleagues can provide similar results.
