As Chappell Roan’s Star Rises, ACL Festival Swaps Her Set Time

Viral pop star switches places with Ohio band Caamp

Chappell Roan (By Ryan Clemens)

It was only a matter of time before ACL adjusted Chappell Roan’s festival slot. In light of the singer’s record-breaking star power, organizers have moved her performance time at the 2024 festival from Saturday afternoon to Sunday evening.

Roan was initially slated to perform at the American Express stage at 4:20pm on Saturday, Oct. 5 and Saturday, Oct. 12. Following a huge uptick in popularity in recent months, however – including an August performance at Lollapalooza that organizers said was the biggest daytime set in the festival’s history – she’ll now play the same stage at 6:45pm on Sunday, Oct. 6 and Sunday, Oct. 13.

The lineup shuffle means Ohio folk band Caamp, originally scheduled to perform at 6:25pm at the Honda stage on Sunday, will now take Roan’s 4:20pm Saturday spot at the American Express stage.

Roan, who opened for Olivia Rodrigo on tour earlier this year, has been plugging away in the music industry for years; her Spotify discography dates back to 2017. However, it was her first full-length, 2023’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, that went viral on TikTok, bumping her Spotify following to more than 40 million monthly listeners.

Like all high-level music festivals, ACL is booked months in advance, and Chappell Roan isn’t the first artist whose popularity has spiked by the time they reached Zilker Park. Hot off the release of breakthrough album Cuz I Love You, Lizzo drew a huge crowd when she played the smaller Miller Lite stage at 7pm in 2019.

Dua Lipa; Tyler, the Creator; Chris Stapleton; Pretty Lights; Blink-182; Sturgill Simpson; Khruangbin; Leon Bridges; and more join Roan at this year’s ACL Festival, which takes over Zilker Park Oct. 4-6 and 11-13. Find the complete, updated lineup here.
