SXSW Adds Glass Animals, Girlpool & Black Lips

Three weeks out and South by Southwest’s Music festival is coming into focus. Schedules emerged, day party lineups are announcing hourly, and most of the 1,500-plus performers have been revealed.
Today’s artist list adds British trip-pop quartet Glass Animals, Atlanta garage favorites Black Lips, indie rock trio Girlpool, and Austin musical maniacs White Denim. Oakland club DJ 8ulentina also jumps onto the SXSW roster, as does Australian dance pop singer Betty Who, German feminist art pop ensemble Chicks on Speed, and Houston rap staple Kirko Bangz.
Veteran turntablist and Beat Junkie J.Rocc stacks with top-shelf producers Peanut Butter Wolf and Mndsgn. California’s Aquadolls ride beachy garage rock, while “Stolen Dance” hitmakers Milky Chance import acoustic guitar pop from Germany. Thao & the Get Down Stay Down have also joined festivities along with Aussie Goner Records singles Thigh Master and Mexican indie pop singer Carla Morrison, who helps lead the big, free Selena tribute on March 21.
Locally, A Giant Dog, Jackie Venson, Band of Heathens, and Ringo Deathstarr get in on the March madness, as do favorites from Austin’s vibrant queer scene p1nkstar and Y2K. Other homegrown talent on today’s bulletin include:
