Adding to Pile: SXSW’s Fifth Artist List

Kirin J. Callinan, Heart Bones, Texas Gentlemen, and 97 more

Only 46 days remaining until South by Southwest’s Music week, slackers better begin scouring the lineup for their new favorite acts. May we suggest aesthetically unpredictable Aussie singer/guitarist/artiste Kirin J. Callinan or Har Mar Superstar and Sabrina Ellis’ new collabo, Heart Bones?

Also among the 100 artists on today’s weekly lineup drop are Montréal pop songwriter Helena Deland, New West Records country/rock conglomerate the Texas Gentlemen, electronic indie heartwrenchers Y La Bamba, and fellow Portlander Black Belt Eagle Scout, whose recent long song “Soft Stud” deserves to be kept on repeat.

Additions to Austin’s largest music event, March 11-17, turn up Topographies, a new group fronted by Gray Tolhurst – son of Cure guitarist Lol Tolhust – that matches post-punk rhythms to dark shoegaze; androgynous art groovers Chanudom, who rep SXSW’s first all-Thai showcase; viral video kid and pop prodigy Greyson Chance; indie pop trio the Pantones; and West London contemporary R&B act Celeste, who just this week released the personally reflective track “Father’s Son.”

Meanwhile, today’s list represents the conference’s strongest local cull with 23 Austin acts added to the fray: Booher, Curved Light, DJ Grip, Dre Prince, Duncan Fellows, Greenbeard, Jake Lloyd, Kydd Jones, Lonesome Heroes, Löwin, Mother Falcon, Night Glitter, Nobody’s Girl, Otis the Destroyer, Redd Volkaert, the Reputations, Skatenigs, Small Houses, SouthSide Hippie, Sweet Spirit, Tinnarose, Trill City DJs, and the newly Grammy-nominated Wood & Wire.
