The Chili Dog Fest Caps SXSW Local Style

Impressive lineup of musicians to benefit Central Texas Food Bank

In its ninth year, the Chili Dog Fest serves as a gathering for local musicians and service industry pros to hang out with friends, take in a killer lineup of bands, and eat chili dogs. The fest is held on Sun., March 18, at noon, and features 50 bands spread out over three venues with all proceeds benefiting the Central Texas Food Bank.

Held at Empire Control Room, the Side Bar, and now Beerland, your $10 donation will net you entrance into the venues, a ticket for a free chili dog, and three raffle tickets. This is an unofficial showcase, no credentials needed.

Other highlights include the Hot Dog Piñata Bust for the kids at 3:15pm and the Crack Pipes leading A Howl for Mike Carroll honoring the recently passed local blues punk legend of Poison 13, Lord High Fixers, and Total Sound Group Direct Action Committee fame.

With your three raffle tickets you can bid on items from the Little Darlin', South Austin Music, Blue Sky Design, El Chile, the Liberty, Hometown Amp Repair, and many more. Fine Southern Gentlemen will be on hand printing up high-quality Chili Dog Fest shirts, so be sure to bring some extra cash, and/or your own shirt if you wanna save a couple bucks.

But the main draw is the impressive lineup of 50 national and (mainly) local acts spread out over 10 hours and three venues [full disclosure: my band, the John-Pauls, will be performing]. Highlights include Canadian noise rockers Metz, Houston garage rockers Sugar Shack, and local punks OBN III's, Flesh Lights, and Eastside Suicides.
