Street Sounds: I Hate I Skate

Three days of wall to wall scrum

Street Sounds: I Hate I Skate

Austin’s hardcore punk scene goes off this weekend with I Hate I Skate, a three-day mini fest presented by Victor Ziolkowski, vocalist/drummer for Plax, Skeleton, Enemy One, and roughly 1,482 other bands.

The gathering kicks off today, Friday, with a death-defying skateboard race down South Congress (2:30pm, beginning at 2205 S. Congress), then seven acts play Barracuda tonight. Saturday brings a zine and art show to Mosaic Sound Collective from 1-5pm followed by another night bill at Barracuda. The gathering moves to Hotel Vegas on Sunday night with eight more bands.

All shows feature raffles and contests, prizes donated by sponsors No Comply Skate Shop, End of an Ear, and Austin Jukebox. Here’s a few of our favorite locals playing I Hate I Skate:

Breakout — Oi! influenced punk (Friday, Barracuda)

Muther — Punk/thrash & roll featuring members of Army, Flesh Lights, and Total Abuse (Friday, Barracuda)

Body Pressure — Razor sharp hardcore with strong female perspective fronted by one-time Hatred Surge screamer Faiza Kracheni (Friday, Barracuda)

Sass — Unwound hardcore anchored by singer Rachael Chaney and guitarist Alex Geiser (Friday, Barracuda)

Enemy One — Fast, pummeling punk (Saturday, Barracuda)

Army — Raw, young hardcore (Sunday, Hotel Vegas)

Sympathy Beating — Grind act with lyrics to match (Sunday, Hotel Vegas)

Recide — Reunion from explosive hardcore punk favorites who broke up in 2015 (Sunday, Hotel Vegas)
