SXSW List No. 9

By Kevin Curtin and Raoul Hernandez, February 26, 2016, 10:10am, Earache!

Unofficial day party announcements now arriving faster than you can spell R-S-V-P, it’s easy to forget that South by Southwest Music continues making lineup announcements, including one now.

This morning’s addition of 212 acts, including Swedish indie pop trio Miike Snow, “Bad” rapper Wale, porno diva Peaches, Atlanta R&B specialist Cody Chesnutt, and London’s Bonnie & Clyde, Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince – the Kills – brings the grand total to somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,900 showcasers between March 15-20.

Other notable adds include one-man industrial doom metal act Author & Punisher, Chicago rapper Taylor Bennett (brother of Chance the Rapper), Wisco stoner metal band Bongzilla, Queer scene rap favorite Dai Burger, East coast wordsmith B Dolan, nightmare rappers Ho99o9, Chicago’s New Wave punk rapper Hxlt (pronounced “Holt”), UK-Canadian electro maven Richie Hawtin, bounce diva Katey Red, and up and coming radio bait X Ambassadors.

Today’s list also throws down a fat stack of Austin artists: the Be Helds, Black Joe Lewis, Black Liquid Drop, BoomBaptist, Buhu, Casual Strangers, Christeene, Stella Cottrell, Country Cousins, Dead Earth Politics, Deep Inside, DJ Hella Yella, Gutter, Richard Henry, Hooka Hey, Jonly Bonly, Kay Odyssey, Kingdom of Suicide Lovers, Jimmy LaFave, Lil Sicc, Line Upon Line Percussion, Loteria, Al Lover, Julia Lucille, Gurf Morlix, Alex Napping, Nikes, Leslie Powell, Dylan Reece, Leo Rondeau, Signy, Tamarron, Texas Never Whispers, the Vanity, and Wolf-E-Wolf.

Yesterday, the first of SXSW’s annual free outdoor concerts at Auditorium Shores was announced. Saturday, March 19, welcomes the SXAméricas All Latino Showcase, hosting performances by Tejano/Norteño giants Intocable, local Grammy-winning Latin fusionists Grupo Fantasma, Colombia’s Afro-Caribbean/hip-hop/dance collective Systema Solar, Mexican alt-rockers División Minúscula, and DJ collective 3BallMTY (pronounced: Tribal Monterrey). Consider it tribute to the discontinued Pachanga Fest, and is open to the public with a free Guest Pass, which can be retrieved here.
