Complimentary Mustache Rides

It’s a great time to sport facial hair in the ATX.

Complimentary Mustache Rides

As evidenced by the international acclaim for the Red River-endorsed Austin Facial Hair Club, a killer 'stache goes a long way around these parts, especially in the winter time. Start extending that five o'clock shadow now. This week there are two events celebrating the Fu Manchu in all of its backpacking glory.

First up, tonight’s Mo Stash Bash at the Independent at 501 Studios with Frantic Clam, the Sea, and Nic Armstrong’s Ripe, among others. This event is actually part of a larger, nationwide celebration that, through partnership with LiveStrong, helps raise awareness about prostate and testicular cancer. Complete details and RSVP info can be found here.

Upping the ante on Saturday is the third annual Manfest at Bird’s Barbershop (1902 S. Congress Ave.), which is sure to get medieval in a manner that makes Al Bundy’s NO MA’AM club look like mere child’s play. This year’s festivities include a sweaty workout from the LCD Soundsystem cover band, All My Friends, along with something billed as “Chiron the Centaur.” Of course, mustaches aren't required, but showing up clean shaven would be like bringing quarters to a strip club.
