Tomorrow’s City Council meeting has a fair amount of action: naming a firm to design the form-based code pilot program for Airport Boulevard, and signing a master developer agreement for the former Austin Energy Control Center Downtown, just west of City Hall. In a landmark, if tentative, victory for LGBT rights, federal judge Virginia Phillips has issued a worldwide injunction stopping enforcement of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, ending the military’s 17-year-old ban on openly gay troops.

The music may have lasted 33 hours, but the Austin City Limits Music Festival's impact will be felt for months to come. With 75,000 attendees daily at the ninth ACL, the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau anticipates visitors and locals dropped over $51 million into city’s coffers via hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, transportation and attractions.

That strong breeze shaking trees around town is the collective sigh of relief from the folks behind Austin City Limits Festival, who were blessed in 2010 with three days of postcard-beautiful weather and a successful year. "Is it a good day?" Ray Benson's voice boomed to the growing noon crowd on the festival's first day. "I think it is."

City Council returns to City Hall for a meeting this Thursday, October 14. On the agenda: controversial changes to their employee pension system, the return of The Domain's zoning requests, and lots more. Oh, did we mention all the food trailers, too?

This past week, the Gorillaz released a new track they recorded three weeks ago entitled, "Doncamatic," with UK artist Daley. Usually, artists take several months to record and master a track before releasing it, but the Gorillaz (coming to Austin October 22) were so excited about the new track… they made it immediately available to the public.
