More than 20 years ago, I bought a $4.50 paperback copy of Isabel Allende's The House of Spirits at the original Borders Book Shop on State Street in Ann Arbor, Mich., before it went all chain-gang on us. I'm proud to say I knew Borders when it was just a wee little shop.

Early Voting Under Way
Good Monday morning, Texas. At 7am, if you are registered to vote, you may begin casting ballots on offices ranging from governor down to county offices, as well as some municipal decisions. Early voting for the Nov. 2 election runs today through Oct. 29. In most locations, polls are open 7am-7pm. For a list of Travis County voting locations, click here.

Housecleaning at Cap Metro
Chief financial officer Randy Hume and Vice President of Engineering and Construction John Almond have resigned from Capital Metro at the request of new President/CEO Linda Watson. The resignations aren't too surprising, considering financial problems that occurred partly on Hume's watch and rail construction delays under Almond.
