Fil N’ Viet’s Last Day Is Tomorrow

Celebrated chef couple Kevin and Rosie Truong will be taking their last orders for their Filipino and Vietnamese dishes on Saturday, September 16.

It’ll be Austinites' last chance to taste their iconic Sinigang wings tossed in a tamarind spice mix with a side of garlic ranch or any of their bowls that blended Vietnamese and Filipino flavors inspired by the Truongs' respective heritage.

"Fil N’ Viet has been a labor of love for us, and it was a tough decision to decide to close," said co-owner Kevin Truong in a press release. "It gave us a great way to share my Vietnamese and Rosie's Filipino backgrounds with Austinites." The Truongs started cooking out of their home kitchen in September 2020 to show off the power of combining their cuisines into a distinctive Southeast Asian fusion that rapidly took off after opening.

Their humble beginnings of taking orders via Instagram DMs, with the Truongs personally delivering dishes to customers, eventually succeeded in helping them open a truck. They set up shop in a truck at the then-new Camp East in November of 2021 but remained the sole employees operating Fil N’ Viet at the food truck park. This allowed the Truongs to become familiar with the frequent campers coming to Camp East from their earliest days.

"We've loved having Fil N’ Viet be owner-operated, but it's been taxing on our work-life balance running the food trailer, especially in the summer heat," said Rosie Truong. "We'll miss seeing our customers' faces at the trailer and are sad to leave the Camp East family."

The Truongs teased a new chapter on social media, saying, “We have a VERY EXCITING new opportunity, one that we can't wait to share with y'all.” Might this next chapter for the Truongs include a brick-and-mortar? We can’t wait to find out.
